Let’s Explore the World!
A Global Languages Companion for Let’s Try! 1
Introduce students how to count in Chinese.
Students discover that while they are learning English, people around the world communicate in many different languages.
How to use:
1. Look at the map. The red parts are all the parts of the world that can speak Chinese. Compare with Japan which is also a country where the language is not the main language in other countries around the world.
2. Teach and practice with students how to say hello in Chinese - ni hao. Then trace and write again.
3. Look at the numbers on the next page. Students will notice they are the same as Japanese. However, the pronunciation is different. Students should know that originally kanji came from China. Neither is wrong or strange.
Practice the pronunciation with students for counting in Chinese.
4. Students should count the different animals and write the Chinese number in the circle. When checking the answers make sure the students say the answer in Chinese. Count the animals together in Chinese.
If you have an ALT who can speak Chinese please let them take the T1 role.
Students can color in the page too.
