The goal of this activity is for students to find another classmate with an animal with something in common. Not to find the same animal.
This activity is a medium level challenge for students to communicate what they know about animals in English only. Where the animal is from, what it can do, what it eats, etc.
How to play:
1. Give 1 card to each student. Give them some time to think about what information they know about that animal.
For example:
Tiger - from India, likes/eats meat, can run fast, can jump high.
Koala - from Australia, likes/eats plants, can climb trees
2. Students make a pair and both show their cards to each other. They try to think of something that each animal has in common. If they can then sit down.
If the animal card is the same, sorry this does not count. Find a new classmate.
If they can't think of anything that the animals have in common then find a new classmate to talk to.
3. Students should think aloud. For example, one student (lion) 'I am from Kenya', other student (bear) 'I'm from Canada', 'I like meat' 'Oh, I like meat'
4. When the time is finished or all students have made a pair and finished, ask each pair to say what they have in common 'We like meat'.
