Let’s Explore the World! A Global Languages Companion for Let’s Try! 1 Introduce students how to write their name in Hangul (Korea). Students discover that while they are learning English, people around the world communicate in many different languages. Because Korean popular culture is very popular with students there may be some who are already familiar with writing Hangul. How to use: 1. Look at the map. The black parts are all the parts of the world that can speak Korean. 2. Teach and practice with students how to say hello in Korean - annyeonghaseyo. Then trace and write again. 3. Look at the chart on the next page. First ask students to write their name in hiragana. 4. Next students should write their name in English and Korean. When writing English please use this chart, do not use roomaji because it will be incorrect. For example, つ、ち、ふ、し. After writing in Hangul, ask students if they recognise any patterns and similarities amongst the Korean characters. If you have an ALT who can speak Korean please let them take the T1 role. Students can color in the page too.
